The AMCAS statement is 5,300 characters, and that number rules everything
Roughly 750 to 850 words, spaces and punctuation counted, with no formatting and no editing after submission. It is a tight, unforgiving box, and it rewards one well-told thing over a survey of your candidacy.
The most common draft I see tries to cover the shadowing, the research, the clinic volunteering, and the family member who got sick. Four topics in 800 words means four paragraphs of summary and no scene. A reader finishes it knowing your activities list, which they already had.
"Why medicine" is the hardest prompt in admissions
Not because it is complicated, but because everyone has the same answer, and most of the honest versions sound either grandiose or thin. The essays that work almost never state the reason. They put the reader somewhere specific and let the reason become unavoidable.
Finding that specific place is a conversation, not an editing pass. It is the part of my work that transfers most directly from interviewing people for a living.
Secondaries are the real volume
The personal statement is written once. Then come secondaries from every school, most on short turnarounds, many asking overlapping questions in slightly different words. Applicants either exhaust themselves writing each from scratch or paste a generic answer that a reader spots instantly. There is a middle path and it is mostly preparation.
The timing is different from everything else I do
AMCAS opens in early May, which puts the writing in March, April and May — the months when college applications are dormant. If you are applying this cycle, that is the calendar we are working against.
Already have a draft? A written diagnostic is $150 — one page back within three days on whether this topic is worth the next six weeks, what it is actually about, and what would have to change. No session and no sales call, and it is credited in full toward any package within 14 days.

There is no separate graduate rate and no separate professional-school package. The packages on the main page apply to any application that asks for a personal statement. Longer engagements cost more only because they contain more essays, not because of the degree.*
